Understanding Mental Health in January
January is Mental Wellness Month. This is the time to recognise the importance of attending to our mental health, especially seeing the vast prevalence of mental health issues and disorders that exist in our world. Remember, mental health is just as important as physical health.

January can often be a challenging month for mental health. The build-up and excitement of Christmas has passed, the days are cold, short and dark, and many people are dealing with the ‘back to work’ feeling and dreading the school run, along with pressures of unrealistic New Year's resolutions. These factors can contribute to feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress. Recognising these challenges is the first step in addressing them.

How to Support Someone with Low Mental Health
Supporting someone who is struggling with their mental health requires empathy and understanding. Be present, listen and offer your full attention without interrupting or offering immediate solutions. Check in with a call or a text, or pop round to see how they’re doing. Validate their feelings and acknowledge their feelings as valid and important even if they say they feel silly. Offer practical support, let them know you’re available to help where needed, let them know you're there for them and willing to help with daily tasks or offer a listening ear. Help them to engage in activities they enjoy or even something new. Invite them to join you in hobbies that might lift their spirits, like a walk outside or a movie night. Encourage alternative help, they may need professional advice of help. Encourage them to seek help from mental health professionals who can provide guidance and support, you could offer to go with them if that helps. Offer to look in to resources available such as information about local therapists, hotlines, or online counselling services.

Supporting Your Own Mental Health
If you're experiencing low mental health yourself, it's important to take proactive steps toward self-care while remembering to be kind to yourself. Recognise that it's okay to feel down and that these feelings don't define you. Try to silence negative self-talk and replace it with positive affirmations. Writing positive thoughts each morning can set you up for a more positive day, writing little notes for yourself, or even listing things you are grateful for. Set a schedule as having a daily routine can provide structure and a sense of normalcy. Ensure you are getting enough rest, as sleep is crucial for mental well-being. Reach out for help, by talking to family and friends, and sharing your feelings with someone you trust can be incredibly therapeutic. Ask for professional guidance if you're struggling, a mental health professional can provide valuable support.

The Role of Decluttering in improving Mental Health
Decluttering your home or living space can have a surprisingly positive effect on your mental health, offering both physical and psychological benefits, reducing stress and creating order in your life. A tidy space can reduce overwhelming feelings of anxiety and chaos by removing unnecessary stressors. A clean and tidy living environment often leads to increased productivity and efficiency as there are less distractions so you will have better concentration, resulting in increased focus, productivity and efficiency. You’ll find you’ll have a better mood along with a sense of achievement. Completing a decluttering project can provide a sense of accomplishment leading to further positivity, as a clean, organized space can inspire a more positive outlook on life.

How to Start Decluttering
·        Set Small Goals: Begin with one room or even just a drawer to avoid feeling overwhelmed as this will only have the opposite result.
·        Sort Items: Decide what to keep, donate, or discard to free up space.
Decide what you need to keep, but don't need right now. Consider a self storage unit to keep these items until you need them. You could use a storage unit as a place to decide what to keep and what to take to the tip. We are based near the recycling centre in Highbridge, on The Isleport Business Park, so a very useful place to decide what you do and don't need.
·        Have a move around in your home, if you feel like one room is more cluttered with things you wont need, then try moving it to a different room that you use less often. Utilise cupboards where possible.
·        Create a Maintenance Routine: Regularly dedicate time to decluttering to maintain a clutter-free environment to keep the positivity in your home.
